La Primitiva is a draw which requires you to select 6 numbers between 1 and 49. It is important to remember that there are two kinds of tickets available for La Primitiva.

Green Ticket: This ticket allows you to participate in only one of the two weekly draws. Once you have selected, the ticket must be validated at any authorized lottery store. If you validate your ticket from Monday to Thursday, you will participate in the Thursday draw, but if you validate it from Friday to Saturday, you will participate in the Saturday draw.

Brown Ticket: This ticket allows you to participate in both the Thursday and Saturday draws. It is important to know that once you have chosen your numbers, you must validate your ticket at any lottery store before the Thursday’s draw begins in order to participate in both draws.

You may play La Primitiva every day except Sundays, from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. To win the top prize you must match 6 numbers, but consolation prizes are awarded to those who match 5, 4, or 3 numbers. You may also obtain a prize called a Refund, which is basically a refund of the money you paid to enter the draw. As always, all prizes are tax free.

There are also two different methods to play La Primitiva...

Direct Simple Method: This method allows you to make selections for 1 to 8 draws on the same ticket. To do so, you have to mark with an X (on the ticket’s first section) each of the 6 numbers you want to enter. If you want to make more than one entry, you just have to mark another 6 numbers on the second section of the ticket, and so on.

Direct multiple method: This method gives you the chance to pick more than six numbers. To do so, you must mark with an X (on the ticket’s first section) each of the numbers you want to enter. Then, on the bottom left of the ticket, you have to mark with an X the total number of bets you’ve made. The more bets you make, the more your entry will cost in total.

You may choose to play from 5 to 11 numbers, this raises the question of how one is supposed to pick 5 numbers when the game requires a player to select 6. The answer is that you can choose 5 numbers by marking them on the ticket, and the remaining 44 possible numbers will be combined one by one with your 5 picks. So, if you get 2 numbers right, the third will be one of the remaining 44 and you will obtain a prize. Similarly, if you get all 5 numbers right, the 6th will be one of the remaining 44, and you will win a major prize.

There’s always one more chance to win with La Primitiva. On each ticket there is a column called 5+ complementary number. This complementary number gives you the chance of winning when you’ve missed a prize because just two of the numbers you’ve picked do not coincide with the winning ones. If you have four matches and your complementary number is the fifth, you will then win a prize.

Prizes:

If the amount of money you win does not exceed the sum of €600, you may collect it from any authorised lottery retailer. If you win a prize that exceeds €600 euros, you can only collect it from one of the commercial offices of Loterìas y Apuestas del Estado

If you have chosen to play in both Saturday’s and Thursday’s draws, you will have to wait until the day after the second draw has been completed before claiming any prize you are due.
